[æ : m] is a phonetic-visual work focusing on the moment of hesitation in spoken discourses. We interviewed several people with a video camera, asking them to speak on topics such as “silence”, “vibrations”, “pauses” and “emptiness”. After analysing these discourses, we selected one and sequenced the moments of phonetic hesitations:
[m], [æ ], [m:], [æ : m], [æ m:], [æ :].
In this way, we were able to construct a “discourse” consisting of the hesitant vibrations of a doubtful and unsettling human voice.
