Description

I put on the floor a birdcage with a bird inside and I give a piece of paper for each spectator with the following information:

Welcome to my performance Vogelperspektive
- During this performance nobody is allow to leave the room.
- Now you can decide if you want to stay or not.
- If you stay, please take a seat on the floor.
- The action may be offensive.
In advance, thank you for your cooperation.

I wait for a while facing the audience and with the birdcage between my hands. I put the cage on my head and pull it over my face. I bite the plexiglass base of the cage with the bird inside, so I can hold it in front of my face. My pocket is filled with birdseed, I take some and throw aggressively the grains at the audience. First one grain a time and gradually more grains. I throw the birdseed repeatedly until my pocket is empty and then I leave the space.

Concept

This work is focused on the audience and their behaviour as a spectator. I use my action to provoke them. Why do you obey the rules of my “game”? Why don’t you question my authority in this situation? Why don’t you stand up and interrupt the together created action and situation?
