INTENSION
17.11.2009
Open Space, Volksluxus, Berlin
Duration: 18 min.
Materials: Chair, White elastic bands, scissors
Documentation DVD: 7min.30s.
I put opened scissors on the floor between myself and the audience. I show a white elastic bands ball and take a seat on a chair. I take one rubber band and put it around my face. I repeat this action until my face is covered with them; my face becomes distorted, blood restricted, and I breathe with great difficulty. Then I extend my hand for a spectator give me the scissors. I let him cut some elastic bands. I take the scissors again and invite more spectators to participate in this cutting of the rubber bands. They come one after the other until all the bands around my face are cut. I leave.
In this piece I’m interested in the concepts of intention/extension related to the actions. I create an in-tentional action, that finishes with its ex-tension to the audience. Also, between me and the public I place a potential action that they can realize at any time to participate actively in my work.
